2016 KMAM-HOF LEGEND INDUCTEE Jimmie Brown Born in 1945 in Texas, Grand Master Brown began his martial arts training in 1952 at the tender age of 7, under the instruction of Uechi-ryu Master Angi Uezi. That training continued until the age 15 when he achieved his 1st Dan. That same year, 1967, Master Brown began training in the art of Jidokwan Taekwondo under Master Cha Tae Hong and Instructor George Funny and Hapkido with GM Bong Soo Han. Moving to North Carolina in 1968, Master Brown began training in the art of Moodukkwan under Master Byong Binh. Then found James S. Cook through Cpt. Wilton Bennett. That same year Mr. Brown also began his long collaboration with fellow martial artists James Cook and Wilton Bennett. When Master Byun moved to California in 1970, Master Ki Han Lee became Mr. Brown’s advisor. In 1971 Mr. Brown founded the Fort Bragg TaeKwonDo Club. After retiring from the military, Mr. Brown moved his school to Fayetteville, N.C., and changed the name to “Brown’s Martial Arts: The House of Power,” where he taught until his death in 2007. Grand Master Brown entered the U.S. Army in 1963, becoming a part of the 5th Special Forces Group and served two tours in Vietnam and was injured in Grenada. Throughout his 40+ years teaching martial arts he had impacted over 4,500 students. The Senior Masters that he had a hand in producing were GM Jimm McMurray, GM Jimmie Faralli, and GM Lascellas McCarthy II. Above all the good he did while alive, he lived by a standard that he passed on to all his students that has created a legacy that will stand the test of time. He instilled a unity, a family type of an atmosphere and was known to tell everyone to help and support one another.
